Speaker A You're asking what I see as the deep basis of requisite organization. And my immediate answer is to recapitulate Elliot's own very deep insight that it's a reflection of the natural structures and changes in human abilities. In a land where people were all of roughly equal ability, hierarchical structures would either not exist or be of a completely different nature. And you see this to a small extent in professional societies where you get a lot of doctors or lawyers or whatever together. Much more is done by committee and collaboration of peers. But when you have to build automobiles or computers or something like that, you can make use of the natural range of human abilities always bearing in mind, as Elliot again would point out, people are changing, they're developing, and it's your job to help them develop. This is one of the most important and valuable things of the Jackson approach that it rests on ideas of human nature and decency of approach to human beings.
